What is the Best Way to Speed Up My Computer?

This is a question many a PC user has asked more than once. When your computer is brand new, it will work like clockwork and will not give you all sorts of problems. However, the longer you use your computer or notebook, you'll soon notice that it gradually operates slower. Slow PC speed is the bane of most PC users. There are many tweaks or actions you can take to make your PC operate at its optimum level.
So what is the best way to speed up your computer? The answer is easy - free up some space. The reason why computers slow down over time is because of files and programs accumulated which takes more time to access. A PC unit also has a registry which records all sorts of data history since you have first started using your unit. This also takes up space - and sometimes the files are unnecessary.
There are many ways you can free up some space. One very simple way is to delete old or unused files. You can also uninstall programs that you rarely or almost never use. Always empty your recycle bin - even if you delete files but you don't empty your recycle bin, the "trash" files will still take up some space.
Another option so you can get more space in your disk drive is to use the Disk Cleanup Utility. This utility is present in all Windows operating systems. All you have to do is to go to the Start menu, click on Programs, choose Accessories, System tools, and finally, Disk Cleanup. Running the Disk Cleanup will show you files and programs that are ready to be deleted. You can delete the recommended files such as temporary files and it will not affect how your computer runs. This process will help you get some disk space back and therefore increasing your PC speed.
When you browse the internet, your computer creates logs of all you do online, including the pages that you visit. It is recommended that you erase your temporary internet files every so often to free up some space. You can do this using your internet browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, click on Tools in the File menu. Choose Internet Options. Under the general tab, you will see a category named Temporary Internet Files. Click on delete files and all your temporary internet files will be erased.
Another very useful step in freeing some space is to use the Add or Remove Programs option from the Control Panel. If you choose this, a box containing all your programs will appear and you can choose from the list which program you would like to erase. Choose only old and unused programs. If you click on a particular program, for example Yahoo Messenger, it will show you how often you use the said program. This can help you in deciding which programs should be scrapped.
Another way is to move your files on a back up system. You can move important but less frequently used files like pictures or documents to an external drive. You can also burn these files to CD so you can erase it on your PC. Do any of these actions to free disk space and you will notice an improvement on your PC speed.
